Folks, Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football have done it again.

Just days after flipping four-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham from UCF despite him drawing a ton of interest from Georgia, Michigan State's second-year head coach landed top in-state wideout Samson Gash over Kalen DeBoer and Alabama.

In the span of a few days, Smith beat out Alabama and Georgia for two of the top receiver targets in the class and you know that if those programs wanted them, they're going to be pretty darn good.

Gash was trending toward the Spartans on Monday and he committed to Michigan State on Tuesday.

The three-star receiver from Detroit (Mich.) Catholic Central is the No. 4 Michigan-based recruit in the 2026 class, according to 247Sports. He is also the No. 49 overall receiver in the class and he's on the border of that four-star status, rated an 89 by 247Sports.

Gash recently received an offer from Alabama and much like Smith did with Jace Clarizio in the 2025 class, he locked in and beat out the Crimson Tide for one of the best players from his own backyard.

With the commitment, Michigan State is up to 20 pledges in the 2026 class and it's ranked No. 25 nationally on 247Sports. Per strictly his 247 rating and not the composite, he's now Michigan State's highest-rated commit in the class.

This is a big commitment because it shows that Smith can win huge recruiting battles and it also sets him up nicely to land four-star cornerback Gideon Gash, the younger brother of Samson, in the 2027 class. He was recently offered by Michigan State on June 18.

No one can stop Jonathan Smith right now -- not even Alabama.
