Another name has been added to Michigan State’s 2027 recruiting board, and it comes in the form of a 7-footer from Miami.
Tom Izzo has been all about adding size to his roster over the past year and he’s done that with guys like Anton Bonke from the transfer portal and Ethan Taylor in the 2026 class. He’s also extended a couple of offers to four-star centers in the 2027 class, but he added another one to the list on Thursday.
This time, in the form of 7-foot-1 center Akol Nyok from Miami.
Michigan State became the latest power conference team to offer the lengthy big man from Miami, joining the likes of Maryland, Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee. Marquette is also in the mix.

Rebounding has always been a huge key to Izzo’s plan, and Nyok is one of the best on the offensive glass in the entire 2027 class. He’s labeled as raw with a ton of potential as a rim protector and on the glass. He has a slimmer frame than Izzo would probably like from his center, but he would 100 percent be gaining weight as the first priority.
Nyok stands 7-foot-1 and is just 205 pounds. He needs to some weight if he plans on playing in the Big Ten. He feels like more of a 1-2 year project if he were to commit to Michigan State, but he could flash his abilities on the defensive end immediately.
And he could also be a pick-and-roll threat.
Nyok is ranked the No. 132 overall prospect and 16th-best center in the 2027 class by 247Sports. He becomes the third center to receive an offer from Izzo in the 2027 class, joining Jaydn Jenkins and Kamsi Awaka. Izzo can’t go wrong with any of them.
Akol Nyok is a defense-first prospect
You’re not going to find too many highlight videos of Nyok shooting jumpers or driving to the basket on his own, but he’s a raw prospect who has a ton of potential and the offense will come around eventually.
Right now, however, he’s a defensive prospect with plenty of rim protecting ability and a knack for grabbing boards. He needs to get a little more physical, but Izzo wouldn’t have extended an offer if he didn’t think that was possible. He runs the floor well, too, which is something that Izzo requires from his bigs.
The offense is going to take some time and that will probably come when he bulks up, but he’s still a threat on that end of the floor because he lives on the offensive glass. Second-chance points would be flowing if he were to commit to the Spartans.
Izzo will never say no to more defensive help, even if that means taking a guy who desperately needs to add some weight and strength.
