Tom Izzo just had one of his biggest and most important Michigan State basketball recruiting weekends in recent memory, hosting five-star center Ethan Taylor, along with Carlos Medlock Jr., for Midnight Madness and the Izzone Campout.
Right after that, Izzo left East Lansing for Las Vegas to check in on five-star small forward Maximo Adams and four-star shooting guard Jasiah Jervis.
Izzo has been relentlessly recruiting the 2026 class, and it feels like he’s ready to go all in on his pursuit of national title No. 2.
Well, he got some really good news on Monday evening as Taylor, who was just on campus, canceled his upcoming official visit to Kentucky. That was going to be his final official visit and it was expected to be this weekend, just days after spending time in East Lansing.

Considering he just visited Michigan State this past weekend, the fact that he has decided to cancel his next visit and focus on making a decision is huge. It helped that Michigan State also had Medlock, his Link Academy teammate and Spartan point guard commit, on campus to help recruit.
The Spartans could use more good news on the recruiting trail to take some of the pain away from the football season that’s been spiraling over the past few weeks.
Taylor committing would give the Spartans their center of the future, and he’s a good one. He’s ranked the No. 2 center in the country, and he’d pair nicely with Medlock and Julius Avent who just committed a week ago.
Potential good news on the horizon in terms of a Taylor commitment? Yes, please.
