We may be less than three months away from college football’s kickoff, but Pat Fitzgerald apparently isn’t done working on the 2026 roster.
Michigan State has picked up some interesting transfers since the end of spring ball and now Fitzgerald’s adding another defensive lineman. The first-year head coach landed a commitment from a Division II transfer on Thursday evening, likely signaling the end of his 2026 class.
Winona State defensive lineman Adam Boehle committed to Michigan State, likely putting a bow on that 2026 roster. Fitzgerald will now have to see where he fits in on the depth chart.

I’m just going to trust the staff’s evaluation until they give me reasons not to. Picking up a commitment from a rather unproductive defensive lineman (6 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks) over his two seasons with Winona State. He does have some really good size at 6-foot-6 but there’s also a chance that the coaches see him playing a different position in East Lansing.
According to his player profile with Winona State, he’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.
Michigan State could definitely use some defensive line depth so I can’t really complain about them getting another body, but I just need to see what they do with him before I make any sort of judgement on the addition. Give me 6-foot-6 at defensive end or tight end any day.
Michigan State’s roster is likely set for 2026
With this addition, I’m going to assume that Fitzgerald is done adding guys to the 2026 roster.
Michigan State now knows what it’s going to run with on both sides of the ball. Depth was clearly a priority for Fitzgerald and he made sure to pass some positions that were looking a little bare on the offensive and defensive lines. He also stocked up on running backs and added several defensive backs.
There are several positions that I think all fans are comfortable with and it’s probably something like: quarterback, running back, receiver, linebacker. The other positions have a lot to prove, but those four are the most solidified in terms of expected starters — at least it feels that way. Fitzgerald has some talent to work with, but this is going to have to be one of his best coaching jobs ever if Michigan State is going to exceed expectations and make a bowl game.
As we approach the start of fall camp, I’ll be releasing an early depth chart projection for both sides of the ball, but I think now that the roster is set, I can start doing my homework.
