Kenneth Walker III involved in viral training camp fight with Chiefs teammate

Kenneth Walker III has been in the headlines quite a bit this year from winning the Super Bowl to being named Super Bowl MVP to signing with the Kansas City Chiefs on a monster deal and now he’s turning heads at first training camp on a new team.

But the heads he turned at Saturday’s Chiefs training camp were likely shocked to see the mild-mannered running back go head-to-head with a teammate in a now-viral scuffle.

Walker was carrying the ball near the sideline of Saturday’s training camp open to the public and he was bumped out of bounds a little harder than he liked. Seventh-year safety and fellow Chiefs newcomer Alohi Gilman gave Walker the extra shove on the sideline that he didn’t love.

Gilman and Walker were jawing after the shove and the former must’ve said something that the former Doak Walker Award winner didn’t like because he tossed the ball and tackled his new teammate. After that, it was just a big scuffle to separate the two.

After watching several Seahawks games with Walker as the RB1 in Seattle, it’s apparent that he takes exception to defenders shoving him near the sidelines and it happens a lot. Maybe Walker frustrates defenders so much that they’re looking for a way to get under his skin and rattle him or maybe running backs just take way too many late hits. Or both.

You have to respect a guy who doesn’t take any disrespect because you don’t see a mild-mannered running back dive at a teammate after some back-and-forth jawing.

It’s been a wild start to Walker’s Chiefs career.

Kenneth Walker III still feels like he has to prove himself

When Walker played for Wake Forest, he was overlooked and split carries for two years before transferring to Michigan State as a relatively under-the-radar guy. He scored a touchdown on his first touch as a Spartan and the rest was history as he rushed his way to the Doak Walker Award.

Despite all of that, he felt like he had to continue proving himself because he took a back seat to Breece Hall in the 2022 NFL Draft after being a Heisman snub.

Walker began his rookie year as the backup before injuries forced him into a starting role where all he did was rush for 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. In year two, he took a small step back and had 905 yards and eight touchdowns before missing five games in 2024 and finishing with a disappointing 573 yards on a career-low 3.7 yards per carry.

With Zach Charbonnet breathing down his neck, he was forced to figure it out in a hurry or he’d be losing his job so he proved himself again. He rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season before rushing for 313 yards and four touchdowns during the postseason, capped off with a 135-yard Super Bowl MVP performance.

There are doubters who say that he’s not worth the three-year, $43 million deal with the Chiefs and now he’s just going to prove them wrong once again.

Walker has spent his whole career proving himself and that’s not going to stop now.
