The hot streak that Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football have been on has really rejuvenated the fanbase. The recruiting trail has paid big dividends to the Spartans and fans are starting to really buy in again.
Since the start of June, Michigan State has landed 14 commitments and the Spartans have vaulted from the 70-range in national team rankings all the way to No. 24. It's been one of the hottest stretches since the Mark Dantonio era and all that's left is winning on the field to improve the caliber of recruits in the next cycle.
The juice is back in the program and it looks like some former players are helping out, too.
Michigan State's most recent commit, three-star wideout Zach Washington, got to speak with one of the Spartans' best receivers over the past decade during his official visit which obviously had to play a role in the decision.
Dean Washington, Zach's dad and coach, posted a picture on X of his son on the phone with Jayden Reed during his official visit, praising Courtney Hawkins for setting it up.

This is how you recruit.
Hawkins has been spectacular on the recruiting trail and he's also one of the best receivers coaches in the game. There's a reason Nick Marsh had a hard time staying decommitted through all the Mel Tucker madness and the losing seasons and it's because he believed in Hawkins.
Now it looks like other players are chipping in to help him recruit. Having Reed on speed dial to speak to prospective receiver recruits is a huge advantage for Hawkins.
Michigan State's late surge for Washington was impressive and it looks like former Spartan stars were helping out as Hawkins pulled out all the stops. Washington looked like a Wisconsin lean before his Michigan State official and now we know why he's a future Spartan.
Hawkins' pitch: come play for me and be the next Jayden Reed.
How does any recruit say no?
