The last legacy recruit that Michigan State basketball landed was turned into a one-and-done and first-round pick. Tom Izzo had a chance to make that two in three years from the same family, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen, after all.

Izzo coached Jason Richardson's son, Jase Richardson, this past season and the legacy player was able to lead the Spartans to a Big Ten title as one of the best freshmen in the country.

Following his one year with Michigan State, Jase boosted his draft stock and earned first-round grades and was eventually selected by the Orlando Magic at No. 25 overall.

With another blue-chip Richardson coming through the ranks, Izzo had to be salivating, right? Wrong, apparently. The Hall of Fame head coach hadn't really been recruiting Jaxon Richardson much throughout his process as a 2026 prospect but he was still keeping tabs on him.

Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as Jaxon released his top 10 on Tuesday night that doesn't include Michigan State -- but it does include rival Michigan.

It feels wrong that a Richardson is including Michigan in his top 10 and not the school that helped send his dad and older brother to the NBA via the first round. Izzo made both Richardsons he's coached better but Jaxon wants to forge his own path, it seems.

While Michigan did make the cut, it feels like Alabama has to be a favorite here, especially since Jase almost went there until Grind Week in East Lansing changed his mind.

Hey, maybe Izzo can get Jaxon to Grind Week just to see what happens. We can hope, right?

The youngest Richardson is ranked the No. 19 overall recruit and sixth-best small forward in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. That's higher than Jase was ranked.
