We are about halfway through the 2025-26 regular season, and a couple of former Michigan State basketball players who left this past offseason via the transfer portal are getting good minutes with their new teams.
The other offseason transfer? Well, he has yet to play for his new team because of an injury suffered in the preseason that has kept him out through this point in the year.
So, let’s get into how each former Spartan transfer is faring.
Xavier Booker, PF, UCLA Bruins
Xavier Booker, a 6-foot-11 big man from Indianapolis, got off to a hot start with his new team, but he has since seen his minutes shrink. That wasn’t the case on Tuesday night as he helped lead UCLA past No. 4 Purdue, in turn helping Michigan State move up the conference standings into a second-place tie with the Boilermakers and Michigan Wolverines.
On the season, Booker is averaging 6.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks while shooting nearly 42 percent from 3-point range — all career-bests.
Although his minutes have reduced lately, he showed up when it mattered against Purdue, playing 35 minutes and scoring nine points with three blocks in the upset.
Tre Holloman, G, NC State
Tre Holloman opted to transfer to NC State to “play for a coach who believes” in him. That statement that he made earlier this season on social media has sort of backfired seeing as he’s playing almost the exact same role with the same exact minutes as he had in East Lansing.
And he was due for a massive uptick in minutes in 2025-26 with Jaden Akins and Jase Richardson moving on.
Holloman’s Wolfpack just picked up a huge road win over a ranked Clemson team on Tuesday, improving to 13-6 on the season. He’s missed some time with an ankle injury suffered a couple of weeks ago, but he’s shaking off that rust. He hasn’t scored in double figures since Dec. 21, but he’s also only played four games since then.
On the year, Holloman is averaging 9.7 points, 2.2 assists, and 1.5 rebounds while shooting over 40 percent from three in 24.7 minutes per game. For comparison, he averaged 9.1 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.9 rebounds in 23.1 minutes a year ago with Michigan State. Not much different, I’d say.
Gehrig Normand, G, Santa Clara
Unfortunately, Gehrig Normand hasn’t appeared this season for Santa Clara after suffering an injury in the preseason. He was expected to have a pretty healthy role a top West Coast Conference contender that currently sits at 16-5.
