Just when I started saying nice things about Tre Holloman and how well he’s been playing so far this season, he goes out and takes a bit of a shot at Tom Izzo.
The former Spartan guard has looked great through three (and an early ejection in a fourth) games, scoring no fewer than 14 points when he’s actually played. He just scored a season-high 25 points on Monday night, boosting his season average to 13.5.
Holloman has been shooting the ball well, too, making about 50 percent of his threes which has made Spartan fans miss the idea of him playing the two spot next to Jeremy Fears Jr.
There was plenty of speculation about why he left Michigan State despite the fact that he probably would’ve played 30-plus minutes per game in the backcourt, but many believe he wanted to be more of a go-to scorer and less of a facilitator. It felt like he eased into his role as a do-everything guard at Michigan State, but apparently he didn’t feel the support that he wanted.
The senior guard even admitted as much on X.
When you got a leader that truly believes in you, it takes your game to a whole other level💯🐺❤️ https://t.co/K8LrZauUjj

This could probably be filed under “shot taken at Izzo” unless he decides to clarify that he meant something different by it. However, he posted it and faced a ton of backlash from Michigan State fans, so I’m assuming he either hasn’t checked or doesn’t really care to clarify.
Holloman doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for why he left, but when it was already a questionable decision and he then takes shot at the school that believed in him, it looks bad.
If he’s implying that Izzo didn’t truly believe in him, that can’t be further from the truth. Izzo played Holloman 23 minutes per game on a team that won the Big Ten and trusted him with the backcourt. He also let him kiss the floor on Senior Day because of the way he stood up for his teammates.
Izzo believed in him, but Holloman might disagree.
Yet another reason why Izzo hates Twitter.
