Tom Izzo got some fantastic news right before the weekend kicked off early last Friday evening as Carlos Medlock Jr. called him to let him know he would be calling East Lansing home.
The Michigan State basketball program got better last week and the future is bright with the four-star point guard gearing up for his senior year and to take the reins at point guard when Jeremy Fears Jr. graduates. Going from Fears Jr. to Medlock Jr. will be a heck of a transition and he'll be able to learn from the Floor General for a couple of years before taking over at point.
Medlock was probably sold on the fact that Michigan State has developed several elite college point guards under Izzo and also it's close to home. He'll likely be ready to return home after spending his senior year in Missouri with Link Academy.
But what was the real reason Medlock committed to the Spartans over plenty of potential suitors as his stock was rising?
Jason Killop of TheSpartanMag got the answer,

“I feel like my relationship with Coach Izzo and the whole staff is real close. No other school could match that. They made me feel at home when I stepped on campus..”

We always hear the terms "home" or "family" when recruits talk about why they commit to Michigan State and it's because of the culture that Izzo has created in East Lansing. Like clockwork, Medlock, too, proclaimed that he felt at home because of the coaching staff and no other program matched that feeling.
This is just further proof that Izzo is one of the best of all time. He took a kid who was sky-rocketing in the recruiting rankings after a huge first half of the summer and got him to commit in a month's time.
While Medlock feels at home with the Spartans, Izzo is hoping his fellow 2026 class targets feel the same, especially during Grind Week. Luckily, Medlock will help with recruiting efforts.
