Pat Fitzgerald is working hard on his 2027 recruiting class, and he’s scheduled several visits with some top national targets. He’s also focusing on the in-state stars like Mark Dantonio did in the golden era of Michigan State football.
Fitzgerald is following the blueprint and now after a rankings update, there are some truly massive fish that he’s in a good spot with. Three of the Spartans’ top in-state targets shot up the new Rivals300 rankings on Monday.
The new Rivals300 was updated and released on Monday afternoon and a few top in-state recruiting targets in the 2027 class appeared in the top 65.
This morning @On3 released their updated Rivals300 rankings rankings for the 2027 class and a bunch of MSUs top instate targets made the list:

Myles Smith - 47th @MylesS98
Bryce Kish - 60th @brycekish6
Gideon Gash - 64th @gideongash
Anthony Cartwright - 278th @ACartwright2027 pic.twitter.com/xO5fo37tZP
The most noticeable name on that list is connected to Michigan State and I like the Spartans’ chances to land him. Fitzgerald just landed his four-star receiver brother in the 2026 class and their oldest is already on the roster as a defensive back.
Gideon Gash would look good in the green and white.
Gideon Gash could be the first domino
A lot of times when top recruits from the state commit early, they try to get their buddies from around Michigan to join them. Gash could commit this summer and then help Fitzgerald out by doing some recruiting of his own. He could sell the future of the program, hinting at early playing time considering Michigan State is in a “rebirth” as Fitzgerald called it.
Gash is now the No. 64 recruit in the 2027 class and he’s joined in the top 65 by a couple of other priority in-state Spartan targets. Bryce Kish was unranked by 247Sports recently and just scheduled a visit with Michigan State, and now he’s the No. 60 prospect in the class.
Defensive end Myles Smith is leading the way as the No. 47 recruit in the country and Anthony Cartwright, a four-star tight end, appeared in the Rivals300 at No. 278.
If Gash commits soon, he could get started on trying to get Kish, Smith, and Cartwright to join him in East Lansing and start turning the tide in the Spartans’ direction.
The 2027 class has a chance to be a special one for Fitzgerald.
