Four-star defensive end Bai Jobe becomes Mel Tucker’s top commit ever, picking Michigan State football over Alabama and Oklahoma.
In his three years as a head coach, Mel Tucker has never landed a top-100 recruit.
That changed on Thursday evening as the third-year Michigan State football coach landed four-star Bai Jobe over Alabama and Oklahoma — yes, you read that correctly.
Jobe officially becomes Tucker’s top commit ever as the No. 64 overall prospect and ninth-best defensive end in the 2023 class, according to the composite.

Michigan State now has 11 commitments again after losing the pledge of four-star cornerback Jaylon Braxton a couple of weeks ago. This will clearly vault the Spartans up the team rankings on 247Sports as they began the day at No. 38 overall after a couple of quiet weeks.
Not only is this Tucker’s best commit since becoming a head coach, but it’s also the best in the Brandon Jordan era. He landed Andrew Depaepe just a couple of weeks after being hired by Tucker and he’s in the mix for some other big names, but Jobe is at the top of the list.
This is a huge recruiting win for Tucker and the Spartans not just because Alabama and Oklahoma were the other two finalists, but because Jobe is extremely talented.
In fact, Corey Robinson of 247Sports even stated that Jobe could end up being the best edge rusher from the entire 2023 class.
And working with Brandon Jordan, Marco Coleman, and Kevin Vickerson is only going to help.
It’s just an awful day to be a Mel Tucker doubter.
