Michigan State Football: Post-spring 2022 game-by-game predictions
Michigan State hasn’t faced Illinois in a few years and the last couple of meetings have been nightmares for the Spartans. Well, there’s a new coach in town for both teams and I see the Spartans getting some revenge for the last two heartbreaking losses against the Illini.
Brandon Peters is gone and Bret Bielema and the Illini are hoping that Tommy DeVito can be the answer to their questions offensively. Chase Brown will be one of the Big Ten’s best running backs after topping 1,000 yards as a sophomore but Jarek Broussard will steal the show here.
A three-touchdown day by Broussard seals this win as the Spartans bounce back from an emotional loss to Michigan.
Prediction: Michigan State 38, Illinois 24 (7-2, 4-2)
Greg Schiano got the best of Mel Tucker in their first meeting back in 2020, but the Spartans got some revenge last season thanks to a huge game from Jalen Nailor and Kenneth Walker III.
Tucker will make it two in a row against Schiano here.
Gavin Wimsatt should be the best starting quarterback the Scarlet Knights have had in a while, but it’ll be interesting to see if the veteran in Noah Vedral can beat him out.
The Scarlet Knights may be better under Schiano than they have been in years, but I’m not sure this year’s team has the talent to even make a bowl game. Michigan State wins easily.
Prediction: Rutgers 20, Michigan State 41 (8-2, 5-2)
