2. Quarterbacks

The only reason the quarterbacks aren’t No. 1 is that the top position group is absolutely loaded.

Payton Thorne is back for his junior season after his first full year as a starting quarterback and he looked like a star for the Spartans. As a first-year starter, Thorne passed for 3,232 yards and 27 touchdowns which was a single-season record for a Michigan State quarterback. He also had one of the most prolific passing yardage seasons in MSU history.

The record-breaker has the weapons to improve on his numbers from last year and break even more records. He has 3,814 yards and 30 touchdowns in 17 career games and he could be one of the nation’s best quarterbacks in 2022.

Backing him up as Noah Kim, Hamp Fay, and Katin Houser. This may be the most pure talent in the quarterback room in quite some time and Mel Tucker has to feel good about his backups.

Thorne is a really good starter but if he were to go down, there is trust in Fay, Kim, and Houser to get the job done. Personally, I think Houser will be QB2 as a true freshman because he’s that good, but all three could assume that role.

Michigan State’s quarterback room is the best it’s been in a while.
