Michigan State Basketball: 3 quick reactions from demoralizing loss at Iowa
By Nate Rhoades
2. This team is soft
This team is not your normally Tom Izzo-coached team. They are simply not competing. They are not boxing out and they are getting beat in all facets of the game right now. This team has got to find some motivation.
Michigan State has started out flat and with no real energy all month. This is causing them to play the game of their opponents instead of getting into their game. This team does not battle for loose balls or those 50-50 balls. Michigan State players are normally the first to hit the deck diving for the loose ball and trying to get the momentum in their favor. This team is not doing that. They are standing around waiting for others to do their work for them.
This team is playing like they have lost all confidence within themselves and they are struggling to find it. Something has to change, someone has to step up. Get the guys into huddles after a foul, call their teammates out when they miss an assignment. Someone has got to do something.
All of these players are playing like they should be handed the win. They are playing in a way to where since they were winning close games early on and finding ways to win they will just end up with the win and they don’t have to bring any passion or energy to the game to rally and will their way to a win.
