Michigan State football’s 2022 class is all sewn up and the Spartans are bringing in some serious talent. Let’s dive into some superlatives.

Mel Tucker has sewn up his second recruiting class as Michigan State football coach and it’s ranked No. 22 in the country.

If you think that’s good, just wait to see what the 2023 class looks like as it’s currently ranked No. 8 in the country.

But now that 2022 signing day is in the books, we can break down who the Spartans have coming in. Michigan State has a lot of good players and it’s clear that Tucker is a fantastic recruiter.

Let’s dive into some 2022 signing class superlatives.

Biggest surprise commit: Germie Bernard

There were rumors of a potential flip by Mel Tucker and Michigan State in the early period, but Germie Bernard decided to sign with Washington and stick with that commitment.

After about a month with the Huskies, he asked for a release from his letter of intent and the wave of crystal balls started to come in for the Spartans. The four-star receiver who was off the table in the early signing period was back in the mix and then he committed to Michigan State shortly after. It was just an incredible turn of events.

There was no bigger shock of a commitment in the class than Bernard. There were other surprises like Katin Houser and Alex VanSumeren who were both flips, but they had been trending toward the Spartans for weeks.

Bernard was a pleasant surprise.
