Michigan State football’s 2023 class is on the rise on Wednesday as the Spartans landed two pledges. It’s now up to No. 8 in the country.

Mel Tucker is red-hot right now. Besides owning the transfer portal for the second straight year, the Michigan State football coach has been killing it in the 2023 class.

On Wednesday, most coaches were sewing up their 2022 class but Tucker’s group was pretty much all signed in the early period outside of a couple of transfers and four-star receiver Germie Bernard. He was able to focus on getting a jump start on his 2023 class — and he’s doing a great job.

Tucker landed three-star offensive tackle Johnathan Slack early on Wednesday which was a nice start to signing day for Spartan fans who weren’t expecting any fireworks.

But that wasn’t the only commitment for the Spartans on Wednesday as Andrew Depaepe joined the 2023 class as the fourth pledge. He’s the No. 134 overall recruit in the country, according to the composite, and he’s a clear indicator that Brandon Jordan was the right hire.

Depaepe and Slack join Kedrick Reescano, a top-250 running back, and four-star tight end Brennan Parachek in the Spartans’ 2023 class and, even more surprisingly, Michigan State has jumped all the way to No. 8 in the national recruiting rankings.

Yes, Michigan State currently has a top-10 class for 2023.

Michigan State is behind only Georgia, Notre Dame, Arkansas, Penn State, Texas A&M, USC, and it’s trailing Ohio State by just one spot.

If there’s ever proof that “Tuck Comin'”, all you have to do is look at his 2023 class. He’s piecing together one of Michigan State’s best classes ever and it’s far from done.
