Michigan State football’s 2023 class is off to a roaring start thanks to Mel Tucker. The Spartans have landed four-star defensive lineman Andrew Depaepe.

The phrase “Tuck Comin'” isn’t just a funny battle cry, it’s a legitimate movement.

On Wednesday, Michigan State football landed its fourth commitment of the 2023 class in four-star defensive lineman Andrew Depaepe from Iowa.

His commitment seemed inevitable as crystal balls for Michigan State flowed in for him on Tuesday and he just spent last weekend in East Lansing and seemingly loved what he saw. It was enough for him to announce his commitment on National Signing Day for the 2022 class, effectively shutting down his recruitment.

This commitment just goes to show that the hire of Brandon Jordan is going to go a long way as Depaepe is one of the best defensive linemen in the 2023 class. He wanted to be coached by the best and put his trust in Tucker and Jordan.

Depaepe is ranked the No. 134 overall prospect in the 2023 class as well as the 19th-best defensive lineman, according to the composite. He held over a dozen offers as Michigan State beat out the likes of Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, and Washington for him.

Depaepe is going to bolster the Michigan State football trenches

You get the feeling that we’re in a new era of defensive line dominance in East Lansing.

Michigan State hired an outside-the-box pass-rush specialist and a defensive line coach with NFL experience to lead the unit after Ron Burton’s departure. Then they landed one of the top defensive linemen in the class and Depaepe has the look of an immediate contributor on the edge. Allen Trieu’s comp for him on 247Sports is actually one of Jordan’s clients in Maxx Crosby.

If the Spartans want to build an elite defensive line, they hired the right guys for the job and they’ve already helped to land one of the top recruits in the 2023 class.

The future is bright in the trenches.
