Malcolm Jones was committed to Virginia Tech over the weekend when he took his official visit to Michigan State and he came away with a reopened recruitment and an offer from the Spartans.

So what does it all mean? You do the math.

Jones decommitted just two days after receiving a Michigan State offer and taking an official visit to check out the program so it feels like this one might be in the bag. Mel Tucker may have closed on the three-star safety from Georgia and it’s one of the more underrated prospects who Michigan State has made up ground with.

When you watch his highlights, you expect a high school free safety to be more finesse but Jones is all power. He has incredible closing speed and he puts a lick on ball-carriers unlike most safeties his age. He has a Xavier Henderson feel to him because he’s not afraid to make a big hit and he’s still very good in coverage.

Somehow Jones flew under the radar and holds just five offers, per 247Sports, and is ranked the No. 786 overall recruit and 61st safety in the class.

Michigan State looks really good here.
