Michigan State football’s defense should improve next season and Jacoby Windmon’s commitment on Wednesday ensures just that.

The 2022 transfer portal class is growing by the day for Michigan State football.

After hosting former UNLV linebacker Jacoby Windmon this past weekend, Michigan State picked up a commitment from the All-Mountain West second-teamer.

Windmon had been trending toward the Spartans since his visit and this was a huge commitment seeing as he was one of the most sought-after transfers in the portal, picking up over a dozen offers since entering.

All you have to do is watch about 10 seconds of his highlights to realize that he’s going to be a perfect addition to Michigan State’s 2022 defense.

Windmon had 119 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles this past season for UNLV.

Line Windmon up next to Freshman All-American Cal Haladay and you have two All-Big Ten caliber linebackers in the middle of that defense. This also means that Tank Brown and Ma’a Gaoteote add serious depth and linebacker won’t be an issue next year.

Windmon just the latest Michigan State football transfer star

After committing on Wednesday, Windmon becomes the second addition from the transfer portal so far, joining former four-star top-150 running back Jalen Berger from Wisconsin.

Like Berger, Windmon fits a need for the Spartans and they should reload at those two key positions. Now, Mel Tucker and Co. will have to keep an eye on potential defensive linemen, defensive backs, and maybe some offensive linemen in the portal.

It’s nice to see Tucker living up to his word of “if you can’t recruit at MSU, you probably can’t recruit” because he’s been killing it.

We could get used to this transfer portal domination every year.
