Michigan State football on the verge of flipping 3-star CB Caleb Coley?
When a team has success on the field like Michigan State football has this season, it starts to translate to the recruiting landscape.
Michigan State’s 2022 recruiting class has been relatively quiet since the start of the Spartans’ season with only Dillon Tatum committing since they kicked off against Northwestern in Week 1. That’s totally normal seeing as most kids like to see the seasons unfold and coaching staffs don’t have as much time to recruit in person throughout the season.
Visits have helped and we should see a lot of kids committing before the early signing period in December.
And it seems like a number of top targets are trending toward Michigan State after this 8-0 start and No. 3 ranking in the first playoff poll.
One of those targets happens to be Caleb Coley, a three-star cornerback from Warner Robins, Ga. He was recently committed to Vanderbilt, but decommitted on Monday and recruiting experts hinted at the Spartans being the program to beat. It looks like Michigan State is on the verge of completing the flip of the three-star cornerback who’s ranked No. 480 in the class.
Coley is also the nation’s 47th-best cornerback, according to the composite.
Coley could kick off hot Michigan State football recruiting stretch
It looks like Coley is leaning heavily toward Michigan State as the Spartans have received a handful of crystal balls on 247Sports this week following his decommitment from Vanderbilt.
And if Mel Tucker does complete the flip to Michigan State, which looks likely, he will likely kick off a torrid stretch of recruiting for the Spartans over the next month. The second-year head coach is already trying to flip four-star wideout Armani Winfield from Texas, five-star lineman Kiyaunta Goodwin from Kentucky, and he’s pushing for five-star linebacker Harold Perkins.
Coley would be a nice get, but he would be the first of potentially a few huge late additions to the 2022 class which could keep it in the top-20 nationally.
