Michigan State football not giving up on 4-star Texas WR commit Armani Winfield
Just a couple of days after it was announced that five-star offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin would be making an official visit with Michigan State football at the end of October, the staff hit the road to check in on another committed prospect.
Armani Winfield is one of the top recruits in the entire 2022 class and he’s been high on Mel Tucker’s board for a while now.
Winfield, a four-star Texas commit, recently took an unofficial trip to East Lansing which showed that the staff isn’t ready to give up on him just yet. But all has been quiet on that front throughout the fall — until Friday afternoon.
According to Tucker’s Twitter, the head coach is in Dallas on Friday to “search for the next generation of Spartan Dawgs” and that might just include the four-star Lewisville, Texas, receiver.
No, Tucker isn’t worried about those LSU rumors, he’s too busy trying to build on Michigan State’s top-20 recruiting class for 2022. He’s trying to flip Goodwin from Kentucky and Winfield from Texas which would all but guarantee a top-20 class for 2022 and potentially even one that landed somewhere in the top-15 range.
Winfield is a priority for Michigan State football
Tucker’s recruiting pitch has changed from the start of the season (selling hope) to the midway point (selling results). He can now hit the recruiting trail and tell recruits, “Hey, look what we’ve done in just one year. You can be part of something special.”
Winfield is one of those guys who has seen Tucker live up to his promises. He was a priority before the 7-0 start and he remains one.
The four-star Texas commit is ranked the No. 176 recruit in the 2022 class and the 25th-best receiver, according to the composite. Michigan State’s 2022 quarterback commit Katin Houser wants Winfield to be part of the class and he would make a heck of a trio with future star Keon Coleman and 2022 pledge Antonio Gates Jr.
Winfield has to be at the top of the wish list for Tucker and Courtney Hawkins.
