Mel Tucker is on a roll right now. He’s only been head Michigan State football coach for a little over a year and he’s only been able to host official visits for less than a month and he’s landed six commitments in the 2022 class in two weeks.

On Friday afternoon, three-star athlete Shannon Blair became the latest commit in Michigan State’s 2022 class, joining 10 others in one of the nation’s top 35 groups.

The Tennessee native chose the Spartans over Duke, Purdue, Virginia, Memphis, and Wake Forest and while he doesn’t have an elite list of offers, this is a prospect who Tucker really liked. Michigan State was the only official visit he took and when he announced he was closing in on a decision, it seemed pretty clear where he was headed.

Michigan State was arguably his best offer and Tucker is going to hope he found a diamond in the rough in the No. 885 recruit and 72nd-best athlete in the nation.

Blair joins Quavian Carter, Braden Miller, Michael Masunas, Jaron Glover, and Jack Stone as the other pledges to Michigan State’s 2022 class in the past two weeks.

Where will Blair fit with Michigan State football?

The 6-1, 170-pounder from Knoxville can play some receiver as well as cornerback, and judging by how much Mel likes size, he’ll probably fit better in the secondary than he will in the receiving corps. He has solid size for a cornerback and he’d just be average for a wide out so Tucker will probably stick him on defense.

He’s also an impressive return man so there’s that option when he gets to Michigan State.

As you can see from his receiver highlights, however, he’s fast and is difficult to bring down so that could give Tucker something to think about.

My bet would be on defensive back, but he has the ability to play both sides of the ball well.
