Over the weekend, Mel Tucker landed a couple of out-of-state kids in the form of three-star tight end Michael Masunas and three-star receiver Jaron Glover.

Masunas has the potential to be a solid blocking tight end with plenty of receiving ability while Glover also fits the Tucker mold.

What does it mean to “fit the Tucker mold”, you ask? You have to have size, athleticism, and, if you’re playing a skill position, speed. Glover is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver and he’s also a high school track star from Florida. In fact, according to 247Sports, he ran a 10.97 100-meter dash in April. Not too shabby for a guy with his size.

Glover wasn’t exactly a household name for Spartan fans who follow recruit up until this past weekend, but his decision to commit on his official visit was big because of his size, athleticism, and speed.

Although he’s the lowest-rated prospect in the 2022 class so far, he’s still a three-star Florida-based receiver with offers from Indiana, Wake Forest, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Recruiting states like Georgia, California, Florida, and Texas will go a long way if Michigan State wants to compete nationally.

Glover will be perfect depth piece for Michigan State football

Early on, Glover is going to be the ideal complementary depth addition with size and speed. Standing 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds with track speed, he could contribute to special teams early on and then potentially slide into a prominent role by his junior season.

Ranked the No. 987 overall prospect and 134th-best receiver in the class by 247Sports, he’s not exactly a blue-chip prospect, but he has solid tools.

Glover makes difficult catches look easy and his awareness is top-tier. He also finds a way to get down the field with separation with ease and that’s something MSU receivers haven’t been able to do over the past few years (not including 2020).

Courtney Hawkins got another solid receiver to work with here and Tucker may not be done adding wide outs to his 2022 class.
