Michigan State football trending with former Notre Dame TE commit
Mel Tucker and Michigan State football have been on a tear lately, picking up a handful of commitments over the past couple of weeks, jumping all the way to No. 25 in the 2022 recruiting rankings.
Guys like Quavian Carter, Michael Masunas, Braden Miller, Jaron Glover, and on Tuesday, the Spartans picked up another pledge from one of the best kickers in the nation, Jack Stone.
And the staff isn’t even remotely close to being finished.
While there are some big names still left on the board in four-star form, there’s one tight end that has been trending toward Michigan State since his official visit in early June and he’s now picking up crystal balls on 247Sports.
Jack Nickel, a former Notre Dame commit, could just be the next Michigan State tight end commit, coming shortly after the staff landed Masunas.
Nickel reopened his recruitment back in April after Notre Dame landed another tight end and was recruiting others at the position and Michigan State made him a priority right away. If Notre Dame recruits you at tight end, you’re doing something right because the Irish seem to always have elite players at the position.
On Tuesday, Michigan State picked up a few crystal balls for Nickel and it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he’s the Spartans’ second tight end commit in 2022.
Another potential Michigan State football commit with elite offers
Michigan State doesn’t have a legitimate four-star prospect yet, but the three-stars the Spartans are landing are all similar in the fact that they have impressive offer sheets and are rated on 247Sports between 85-89 (high three-star range). The Spartans aren’t getting any MAC-level three-stars anymore and Nickel is a really impressive recruit.
Nickel is ranked the No. 509 recruit in the class and 30th-best tight end, according to the composite.
The Georgia native has all the tools to be an immediate contributor. He’s a willing blocker and has good hands and a knack for finding the soft spot in the defense to catch the ball.
As for his offers, he has about two dozen including LSU, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Iowa, Miami, Oregon, Penn State, and Wisconsin.
This would be a heck of an addition to Michigan State’s 2022 class.
