Missing out on AJ Duffy in the 2022 class to Florida State definitely hurt, but Michigan State football still has some top targets on the board for the upcoming class as well as 2023.

In 2022, Mel Tucker could be targeting Cal commit Justyn Martin and Boise State pledge Katin Houser, but he also has his eye on Florida State commit Nicco Marchiol. He has plenty of options in 2022 and could wind up with a four-star gunslinger, but one quarterback in 2023 should be his top priority overall as he looks for the future under center.

Dante Moore is planning a visit to East Lansing in June, per Steve Wiltfong, when coaching staffs are finally able to meet with recruits face-to-face, and he might just be the top priority in 2023.

Or at least he should be.

Moore is a five-star quarterback from Detroit King who may not be the most polished player just yet, but the potential is obviously there as he’s considered the No. 15 overall prospect in the class and third-best pro-style quarterback by the 247Sports Composite.

He’s also the top prospect in the state of Michigan in the class and while recruits from the state haven’t quite panned out over the years, Moore looks like a budding star.

Moore could give Michigan State football incredible depth

Michigan State hasn’t had elite depth at the quarterback position in years, but Tucker is actively fixing that. He has Payton Thorne and Anthony Russo battling it out for a starting job in 2021 with Noah Kim and Hamp Fay waiting in the wings.

When those two are gone, Fay will be the likely starter and a four-star like Houser or Martin could be there as a young backup. Add in a guy like Moore and that’s a tremendous three-deep.

Moore fits the mold of what Tucker is trying to do as well. He has a great pocket presence and escapability but he needs to prove that he can do this against top-tier competition which will only happen during summer camps and recruiting events.

The talented sophomore passed for over 1,700 yards and 30 touchdowns with just three picks in 2020 and is already considered a must-have prospect in 2023.

Moore has a solid offer sheet with programs like Florida State, Auburn, Kentucky, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, and West Virginia, among others, extending early offers.

For Tucker, Moore needs to be a priority if he wants to get Michigan State’s depth back to where it once was and return the Spartans to their winning ways.
