A week ago, Florida State landed the commitment from four-star IMG Academy quarterback AJ Duffy who was also high on Mel Tucker and Michigan State football’s list.

The Spartans were one of Duffy’s finalists along with Arizona State, but he chose Florida State which actually already held a commitment from a four-star quarterback.

Michigan State quickly turned around and offered four-star Boise State commit Katin Houser and also had guys like Jayden Denegal and four-star Cal commit Justyn Martin on its big board. Recently, however, there’s been a surge with the Seminoles’ other four-star quarterback commit in the 2022 class, Nicco Marchiol.

The 6-2, 215-pound Arizona-based prospect is familiar with the coaching staff and the Spartans are making a strong push for him as they search for “their guy” in the 2022 class.

Marchiol locked in an official visit with Michigan State on June 4, a week before an official with West Virginia.

Marchiol the latest to join Michigan State football’s QB big board

Michigan State has its eyes on Houser, Martin, Denegal, and unranked quarterback Luther Richesson, but Marchiol has joined the mix with this visit.

The Spartans don’t have a bad option at quarterback for the 2022 class and Tucker has shown that he can land ‘his guy’ even if the ratings aren’t the best. Hamp Fay was one of the most underrated quarterback recruits in the entire 2021 class because injuries forced him to miss time, impacting his rankings, and he might just find another diamond in the rough in Richesson.

But he could also go the four-star route and land any of the other prospects on his big board.

Whoever Tucker gets is going to be good and if it’s Marchiol, it’ll make losing Duffy to Florida State hurt just a little bit less.
