With Emoni Bates committing to Michigan State basketball this week, he takes a spot away from the 2021 or 2022 classes. Who could be next?
When Emoni Bates committed on Monday afternoon, the Spartans landed their first 2022 commitment, but there’s a good chance he could reclassify to 2021.
If that’s the case, Bates’ commitment takes away a spot from the 2021 group that Michigan State could use on guys like Kobe Bufkin, James Graham or Jeremy Sochan. A one-time top target Charles Bediako recently released a top 10 and Michigan State was left off the list so the Spartans will likely have to wait until 2022 to find a big man.
The 2021 class is filling up and if Bates is part of that group, there’s a good chance there are 1-2 spots left and there will be some attrition after the 2020-21 season. Will Aaron Henry stay in the draft this year or go next year to open up another spot? Will someone like Rocket Watts break out and make a push at the NBA?
Spots are filling up in the Spartans’ 2021 and 2022 classes and there’s a good chance Tom Izzo could reel in one of his best two-year hauls (or even three years, including 2020) if all goes as planned.
There’s already a rumor of an incoming commitment this week, but that may only be the start of a special recruiting run.
So who are the top targets left on the board for Michigan State in the 2021 and 2022 classes?
