An official member of the all-name team, Rocky Lombardi has the most to prove of anyone on Michigan State’s roster for one reason: he’s the veteran quarterback on a team in need of a passer.

Lombardi has had an interesting career thus far. Committing to the green and white in 2017, he redshirted as he watched Brian Lewerke break out. He then sat behind Lewerke until an injury in 2018 and Lombardi stepped up to start against Purdue and that’s when he gained a ton of fans, leading the Spartans to a big win in late-October.

Other than that Purdue game, his career has been quiet and that’s because his completion rate is nothing to write home about. In fact, his career completion rate is just 43 percent.

Entering his junior year as the most veteran gunslinger on the roster, he has to prove that he can lead a young quarterback room and win the starting job that he’s worked four years for. If he can’t, he’ll be playing the backup role to underclassmen for the rest of his days in East Lansing — or switching positions.

Whether you want him to start or you’re lobbying for Theo Day or Payton Thorne, Lombardi has the most to prove of anyone on the roster, and that’s not even a major debate.
