Two of Michigan State football’s first 2021 commitments received a rankings boost on 247Sports. Just how far did they rise?

A month ago, we were all talking about how Mel Tucker just needed to land his first commitment in the 2021 class to get the ball rolling and now here we are at four pledges in two weeks.

Tucker has done a fantastic job during a quarantine to get kids to buy into his program and pledge to the green and white, although they may not be the highest-rated recruits. In fact, the Spartans have landed four three-star prospects over the past two weeks, which was kicked off with a pledge from three-star running back Davion Primm from Oak Park.

After Primm’s pledge, it was East Lansing’s Ethan Boyd who decided to stay close to home and then three-star defensive back Gabe Nealy became the first out-of-state commit from Miami.

On Wednesday, the Spartans’ 2021 class grew to four with the pledge of three-star defensive tackle Derrick Harmon over the likes of Purdue and Ole Miss. That’s four commitments in two weeks and the momentum is growing in the Spartans’ favor by the day.

Not only are the commitments coming in furiously, but their rankings received a boost by 247Sports on Wednesday afternoon — namely Primm and Boyd.

In fact, according to Stephen Brooks of 247Sports, Primm’s player rating went from an 83 up to an 86 and he’s now the No. 52 running back in the country where he was previously No. 95. As for Boyd, he went from the No. 105 offensive tackle to 66th nationally and his rating went from an 84 to an 86. Both are now top 25 prospects in Michigan.

We’ve all talked about Spartans who have dropped in the rankings after committing, but this bump is something fans could get used to.
