The 2020 recruiting class could be an elite one for Michigan State football in terms of quarterback prospects. Who should top the list?

When you send three quarterbacks to the NFL and have another hopeful in Brian Lewerke, you begin drawing interest from some of the nation’s top prospects at the position.

Such is the case with Michigan State football, especially since Dave Warner is back at his normal coaching position with the quarterbacks and Brad Salem is at offensive coordinator. The pull to East Lansing for quarterbacks has to be strong and it certainly has been just that in the 2020 recruiting class.

Michael Alaimo was one of the first names to draw attention as the pro-style New Jersey-native received a Michigan State offer this spring and took a visit on June 7. He’s rated a four-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite and he has the perfect size and arm strength to be an elite gunslinger at the next level.

After Alaimo, many are pegging four-star dual-threat Chubba Purdy as a top option and potentially the best fit for Michigan State. He’s an elite athlete with a strong arm and just happens to be the younger brother to Iowa State star quarterback Brock Purdy. He has a five-star name, but if you watch his highlights, he has a five-star set of tools as well. He may be 1A to Alaimo’s 1B.

Michigan State also offered four-star dual-threat Jalen Suggs who is a top basketball prospect as well and he stands 6-foot-5. Three-star dual-threat Anthony Romphf was an option, too, but many believed Michigan State was recruiting him as an athlete and not a quarterback so he committed to FAU.

Lastly, there’s three-star dual-threat C.J. Stroud from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and he may not be a serious option for the Spartans, but wouldn’t be a bad backup plan if Purdy and Alaimi were to fall through.

The next crop of Michigan State prospects are elite and the Spartans can’t really go wrong with any of these prospects. Who would you like to see in the green and white?
