Some might call him opportunistic, which he very well could have been in 2017, but others call him a former All-Big Ten first-teamer. Either way, David Dowell is going to earn some looks from NFL teams in 2019 if he gets back to his 2017 ways.

As a sophomore, Dowell started every game and was one of the most consistent performers in a resurgent secondary which led the program to 10 wins after a forgettable 3-9 campaign.

Dowell finished with 52 total tackles, showing that concerns about him tackling were no longer, and had five interceptions with 78 return yards and nine pass breakups. He was all over the field and his interceptions came in bunches — he had two games with two interceptions.

As a junior, he showed promise, being named to the All-Big Ten third-team, but he wasn’t quite his first-team self like in 2017. He did finish with a career-high 59 tackles but had just two picks and four pass breakups.

Being a senior and leader in one of the best defensive backfields in college football should earn him some recognition from NFL scouts.
