Michigan State basketball’s 2019 recruiting class finally got started last weekend, but the Spartans still have their sights set on a few targets.

It’s been quite the past week for Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball recruiting.

First, the Spartans missed on Terry Armstrong who didn’t list the green and white in his list of top schools. Then, they also missed on Josiah James, a five-star point guard who surprisingly committed to Tennessee over Michigan State and Clemson.

Shortly after, the Spartans got their first 2019 pledge in four-star guard Rocket Watts who recently transferred from Old Redford (Mich.) Academy in Detroit to Spire Academy down in Indiana. The move was surprising and no one knew whether it helped or hurt the Spartans’ chances. It turns out it was the former.

Since that commitment, Michigan State has checked in with Vernon Carey Jr. and made the top six schools list of five-star wing Keion Brooks.

There are still some big names on the board and Michigan State seems to be just heating up. Tom Izzo could wrangle an even better class than he had in 2016 with Miles Bridges, Josh Langford, Cassius Winston and Nick Ward, but everything will need to go his way.

Let’s take a look at the top five remaining 2019 targets.
