Michigan State basketball and Tom Izzo are putting the full-court press on five-star big man Vernon Carey Jr. who could be part of the 2019 class.

Just days after landing his first 2019 commitment in four-star guard Rocket Watts after he paid him a visit, Tom izzo is hitting the road yet again to check in on five-star big man Vernon Carey Jr.

The recruiting class has gotten off to a quiet start, but things could soon change as Watts could act as a domino and the rest may fall within the next couple of months.

The Spartans are likely to take around 3-4 commitments in this class and the top remaining targets have to be Carey Jr., the No. 1 player in the country, along with Keion Brooks and Isaiah Stewart. Landing any combination of those guys would be considered a big-time win.

Though Izzo has that 2016 recruiting class of Miles Bridges, Josh Langford, Cassius Winston and Nick Ward, this one could rival that for one of his best ever.

Carey Jr. is listed as a center but can play a little bit of everything. He’s a versatile big who stands 6-foot-10 and weighs 275 pounds and he can bully just about anyone down low.

If you’re looking for a guy who could become Izzo’s most prized recruit in his two-plus decade long tenure, this is him. Carey Jr. is a special talent who would become the highest-rated pledge in the head coach’s career.

Don’t count Michigan State out in this recruitment just because he’s one of the top-three recruits in the nation just because it typically doesn’t land guys ranked this high.
