C+. . QB. Michigan State. BRIAN LEWERKE

Brian Lewerke had an off-game, under his standards. He made some throws that made me think, “Wow, this kid is an NFL quarterback” and then he would overthrow easy crossing patterns and outs.

One throw that caught my eye in the first half was a beauty over the shoulder to Cody White in the first quarter. The next was a ball in the back of the end zone to Matt Dotson to close out the first half. The second throw was an anticipation toss, knowing that his tight end would be the one to come away with it, placed absolutely perfectly.

One thing he tried to do way too much of was play hero ball. He looked too much like Connor Cook, at times, and not the good version of Michigan State’s all-time leading passer. Instead of throwing the ball away or taking a sack, he would try to make something out of it, which led to a few turnovers.

Lewerke is having a strong season, especially with his accuracy, but the Indiana game was his worst of the three. He would tell you that he needs to be better — and hey, why no scrambles from the dual-threat?
