1. Michigan State covers the spread, and then some

Many are worried about this matchup. Playing at Indiana under the lights could be a recipe for disaster, but the Big Ten opener will go the Spartans’ way as they’ve had two weeks to reflect on their loss to Arizona State, playing in a harsh road environment about 2,000 miles from home.

Bloomington isn’t that far and Memorial Stadium won’t be quite as rowdy — although Hoosier fans can get a little crazy. Michigan State will travel well to this one, too, and it’ll feel more comfortable and less 100-degrees-like than Tempe did.

Brian Lewerke will have another strong game, but it will be the resurgence of the offensive line and the defensive side of the ball that will be the true difference in this one. The Spartans will play their first complete game of the season and the Hoosiers will be on the wrong end of a double-digit loss.

No, it won’t be a blowout, but the Spartans will cover the six-point spread, and then some. I’m predicting a 31-20 final in favor of the green and white, but it’ll feel tight and anxiety will be at an all-time high throughout the game.
