Michigan State Football: 5 most important games in 2018

OK, so last season’s matchup with the Buckeyes went exactly the opposite way the Spartans would have hoped. Michigan State entered the game with a 7-2 record and a chance to knot things up atop the Big Ten East with a win in Columbus. Well, that didn’t quite happen as the Spartans were only able to muster three points, losing 48-3.

The game got out of hand early on and the Spartans couldn’t figure out how to slow down Ohio State’s scoring barrage as the defense was gassed and the offense was demoralized.

Ohio State is the class of the Big Ten but the Spartans have given the Buckeyes a tough time over the past five, or so, years. Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio have gone back and forth during their time as Big Ten rivals, but the Buckeyes have owned the Spartans in East Lansing.

This game is clearly the most important of all Michigan State’s contests and it’s because the Big Ten title could be on the line. The Spartans need to show they can keep pace with the top team in the conference to earn respect on a national level and avenge their 2017 beatdown.
