Michigan State Football: Michael Fletcher has All-American potential at DE
Michigan State football has been torching the recruiting trail, landing four-star defensive end Michael Fletcher from Flint, Mich.
To say the past couple of days have been busy for Michigan State football recruiting would be a drastic understatement. Things just got busier with the commitment of four-star defensive end Michael Fletcher from Flint, Mich., on Friday evening.

This may be the third-biggest recruiting victory of the 2019 class for Mark Dantonio and the Spartans, trailing only the commitments of Julian Barnett, a four-star defensive back from Belleville, and five-star Belleville offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs. Four-star quarterback Dwan Mathis would be up there, too, but he just de-committed and picked Ohio State.
Fletcher was a recruit who had been on the top of the Spartans’ wish list for months, but it looked like Michigan was the leader for a short time.
The recent trends favored the Spartans and his commitment to the green and white helps the 2019 class on the defensive side of the ball tremendously, giving them a future All-American type of player at the end spot — a Shilique Calhoun type of talent.
Fletcher is an explosive defender who has refined pass-rushing skills and a nose for finding the ball-carrier. He’s uber-athletic for a 6-foot-5, 240-pounder and has the potential to push for snaps from day one. He is a more than welcomed addition, marking Michigan State’s third commitment of the day.
Moreover, the Spartans have landed five pledges in the past two days and six on the week, including Dobbs.

Fletcher is listed as the No. 296 overall prospect in the class, 22nd-best strong-side defensive end and seventh-best in-state product, per 247Sports. He picked MSU over Michigan, Alabama, Nebraska, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
