Michigan State Football: Devontae Dobbs commitment could create domino effect
Michigan State football landed one of the biggest commitments in the Mark Dantonio era as Devontae Dobbs verbally pledged on Monday.
It has finally happened. After months of debate about whether or not Devontae Dobbs would follow his teammate’s (Julian Barnett) and become a Spartan, the five-star offensive tackle from Belleville, Mich., has given his verbal pledge to the green and white.

Barnett dropped a hint on Twitter earlier today, stating that a commitment was coming soon. Would it be a quarterback replacement for Dwan Mathis who just flipped to Ohio State? Would it be Michael Fletcher or maybe even an under-the-radar surprise pledge? None of the above.
Fortunately the Spartans were able to secure Dobbs’ commitment, even after he visited USC last week and the Trojans seemed to gain some traction.
Not only is this big for the immediate future of Michigan State’s offensive line, it could also set off a domino effect. Dobbs is close with a number of players in the 2019 class and he could set off a string of commitments. With Barnett being the presumed leader of the class, along with Spencer Brown, Dobbs can now join forces and help recruit some of the state’s top talent.
Guys still on the board (Fletcher, Jaren Mangham, Lance Dixon) could look to this as a reason to take Michigan State seriously and they could be next — although Dixon is a long-shot.
Dobbs’ commitment gives Mark Dantonio just his fourth five-star commit ever. The others were Lawrence Thomas, Malik McDowell and William Gholston — this is Dantonio’s first on the offensive side of the ball. He’s ranked the No. 13 player in the nation and third-best tackle in the class, per the 247Sports composite.
