It’s not time to panic just yet, but Michigan State football’s 2019 quarterback commit Dwan Mathis visited Ohio State this weekend.

Michigan State fans received some not-so-good news on Friday as news broke that Dwan Mathis was on an official visit to Ohio State for the weekend.

The Spartan pledge has been committed since last September and looks to be one of the leaders of the class. However, Ohio State has been making a strong push for him.

Mathis has become a hot commodity in the 2019 class, especially for the Buckeyes who are looking for a quarterback commit. They offered him on May 3, but he was adamant that he was still 100 percent committed.

With every Ohio State-related story that comes out on Mathis, people begin to believe the ‘100 percent’ quote a little less. The talented quarterback would make either the Buckeyes or the Spartans’ 2019 class complete. It shouldn’t be time to panic about the four-star potentially flipping just yet — although he’s good enough to attract attention from top programs.

For some reason, though, 247Sports isn’t nearly as high on Mathis as the rest of the recruiting databases. In fact, he’s ranked the No. 694 overall player and 16th-best recruit in Michigan per 247Sports, but the composite has him listed as No. 251 overall and No. 6 in the state.

The latest Rivals rankings have him listed as the No. 90 overall prospect.

Mathis’ recent appearance at the Elite 11 event proved he’s worthy of top-tier status on a national level. He was in the top-11 rankings until the final day, but he showed his ability to sling the deep ball and his accuracy and poise impressed people at the camp.

Don’t hit that panic button yet, Mathis is still a Spartan and he has friends in Michigan State’s 2019 class to keep him grounded. He has gotten approval from the staff for an Ohio State visit, so he’s not sneaking around with this trip. It’s Urban Meyer’s last-ditch effort to flip him, if anything.
