There’s a good chance Romeo Weems could become Michigan State basketball’s first commitment in the 2019 class, and here’s why.

Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class could get off to a good start on Tuesday evening as four-star forward Romeo Weems is set to announce his decision.

The New Haven, Mich., star has been on Michigan State’s radar since his freshman season and Tom Izzo has been pushing to land him for quite some time. He announced his final five schools over the weekend and his commitment day of May 22 at 4 p.m. ET.

The Spartans should feel good about their chances to land the local prospect who is also considered one of the top-two or three recruits in the state of Michigan.

Weems should become the next Spartan pledge, and here’s why.

5. Familiarity with the program, campus

Romeo Weems is no stranger to East Lansing. In fact, if you go by the visits records on his 247Sports profile, you’d see his last two visits were to Michigan State. And he’s visited East Lansing countless other times, showing his familiarity with the program as well.

This comfortability is huge in a recruitment. Kids want to go where they feel like they’re treated like family and where they get along with current players. If Weems wasn’t comfortable with Michigan State, he wouldn’t come back time and time again.

You don’t see that type of familiarity developing with the other programs to make his top five, which makes this seem like a no-brainer commitment to Michigan State.

If and when he does pick the Spartans, you might hear him use a phrase like “family” when describing Michigan State or talk about East Lansing being like “home”.
