Michigan State football received a commitment from three-star receiver Jase Bowen on Saturday afternoon, but what does he bring to the table?

If Saturday’s spring game was any indication, the future at wide receiver is as bright as it’s ever been. Guys like C.J. Hayes and Cam Chambers stood out as up-and-comers on a day that Felton Davis III didn’t dress and Cody White didn’t have the biggest role.

Seeing the receiver depth had to be a good sign for Jase Bowen, knowing that he’d have the chance to join a solid cast and improve in every facet. The three-star wide out from Toledo, Ohio, decided to become the latest Michigan State pledge in the 2019 class and the first, of potentially multiple, of the spring game weekend.

Bowen was originally committed to Notre Dame for baseball, but decided he wanted to pursue a career in football as well. One of the programs that offered him an opportunity to do both was Michigan State and Mark Dantonio extended a scholarship for football back in March.

What does the 6-foot-1, 178-pound receiver bring to the table? Well, let’s take a look at his highlight reel and dissect it.

Although he doesn’t have the biggest frame, he makes up for it with speed. Many of his routes in the highlight start off with a hesitation move and it proves to be devastating for defenders because they often bite, hoping that they jump a short route, but he burns them deep with his blazing speed and they can’t recover.

That speed could make him a valuable slot receiver for the Spartans. He could become an R.J. Shelton type of receiver and replace Hunter Rison who decided to transfer after the 2017 season. He could also become a solid punt returner.

Bowen may be ranked the No. 406 overall player and 59th-best receiver in the class, per 247Sports, but he could be on the verge of blowing up this summer.
