While he was also recruited as a tight end by some programs, redshirt freshman Jack Camper appears to have settled into a defensive role at Michigan State. An early enrollee in the 2017 class, Camper is no newbie to the position, however.

As you can see from his highlight tape above, he was a standout at defensive end for national power IMG Academy before making his way to East Lansing and earned offers from Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville and Nebraska, among others. Furthermore, Michigan State is already pretty loaded at tight end with senior Matt Sokol and a few underclassmen returning, so it’s likely Camper will be at defensive end for the long haul.

After spending an entire year learning the playbook and getting stronger, the former three-star prospect has put himself in a position be a key player in 2018. The Spartans clearly need as many contributors as they can get at defensive end, but he’ll need to ward off a handful of fellow underclassmen. At 6-foot-6, Camper has the length MSU covets from its ends, so if he can show off some improved technique, he’ll be seriously considered for the starting spot opposite Willekes.
