Running Back

Signees: ATH La’Darius Jefferson (Composite three-star, 0.8702), RB Elijah Collins (Composite three-star, 0.8639), ATH David Kruse (Preferred walk-on)

Michigan State added two quality, underrated players in La’Darius Jefferson and Elijah Collins. The former was initially committed to Central Florida to play quarterback, but turned down the Golden Knights — along with several others who recruited him as a quarterback — for an opportunity to be a Spartan. While MSU may give Jefferson an opportunity under center, the staff wants to start him out at running back. Looking at his tape, it’s not difficult to see why.

Collins, meanwhile, has the look of a dependable, strong back who will excel in the Big Ten. Wisconsin pushed hard for his commitment, but the staff made him a priority and their diligence should pay off down the road.

While both are undoubtedly talented, the Spartans return a strong one-two punch with L.J. Scott and Madre London, making it unlikely either will get many carries in 2018.

Redshirt freshman Weston Bridges and rising sophomore Connor Heyward also return to provide depth. Given this, both appear likely for redshirts, but if Jefferson can demonstrate play-making ability as a receiver or kick/punt returner, he could force his way onto the field in 2018.
