1. Michigan State can’t close

This one is probably the most legitimate argument, but it’s also factually incorrect. To say a team can’t close would mean that the Spartans have blown leads and lost games.

When you look at the close games the Spartans have had this year, one thing sticks out: this team usually knows how to hold on for victories. Sure, the lone exception is the Northwestern loss which happened after a late Michigan State comeback to force overtime, but Michigan State found ways to beat Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State and Maryland in close battles.

Not all of them felt that close, though. Minnesota and Maryland felt like complete dominations by the Spartans and Iowa was just an ugly performance all-around. The Spartans were able to close against Michigan and Maryland, two of the top-five teams in the conference.

To say Michigan State can’t close games just because they let things get a little interesting at the end is a complete overreaction. The Spartans find ways to win, albeit stemming from conservative play, but some would argue they are the ultimate closers. Putting teams away is a different story.
