Michigan State football landed a top target to its 2019 class in four-star dual-threat quarterback Dwan Mathis.

Saturday wasn’t all bad for Michigan State football as the Spartans came away with their second commitment in the 2019 class. Four-star dual-threat quarterback Dwan Mathis picked the Spartans over the likes of Pitt, Kentucky, Cincinnati and Iowa State.

Mathis was also being recruited by Ohio State, Michigan and Louisville. The Spartans offered Mathis back on July 12, he visited about three weeks later and it was rumored that he was close to committing on his unofficial.

Well, he was back on campus for the Notre Dame game and committed to the green and white Saturday evening.

This was great news for Spartan fans about 40 minutes before kickoff, but that was about all the positives they had from Saturday night. Michigan State laid an egg at home against Notre Dame, 38-18.

Still, the addition of Mathis is huge. Not only have the Spartans landed their second commitment in the class, but both are in-state kids and four-stars as well. It’s a good start to a class that desperately needs to take a major step in the right direction to keep up with Ohio State and Michigan.

Mathis is an impressive talent and stands 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds. He has a strong arm and can sling it all over the field while also throwing on the run.
