Michigan State football opens its season Saturday, but what bold predictions can we make for the first month of action?

The 2017 season is finally here, folks. Michigan State football will be taking the field on Saturday at Spartan Stadium against Bowling Green and it’ll be one of the most anticipated openers in recent memory. No, it’s not because the Spartans are favored to win the Big Ten, but just the opposite.

Not many experts are giving Michigan State much of a chance to win the conference and that’s creating some buzz during fall practice. This team is poised to put the 3-9 season behind it and it starts with an opener against one of the MAC’s weakest teams from last year.

Michigan State has spent the offseason looking for answers and it will be up to the young, hungry team to turn things around. Let’s take a look at five bold predictions for the opening month of the year.

5. Kevin Jarvis  takes over at right guard

One of the highest ranked recruits in Michigan State’s 2017 class will be impressive through the first month. This isn’t as much of a knock on David Beedle as it is praise for Kevin Jarvis, but the true freshman is going to take over as the starting right guard by the end of September.

Don’t worry, Beedle will still be right in the rotation, but the line will get younger, and better, in the process.

Just picture a line with Cole Chewins, Tyler Higby, Brian Allen, Jarvis and Luke Campbell. That’s four underclassmen and one senior captain. That’s not just a recipe for success this season, but for years to come. Two sophomores and two freshmen starting means that these guys could start for 3-4 years together.

Jarvis is going to be a major bright spot for the green and white in the first moth of play and fans will be pleasantly surprised.
