Michigan State football is expected to get a visit from three-star 2019 quarterback Dwan Mathis this Sunday.

Mark Dantonio is gearing up for an important week. Not only does his Michigan State football team begin fall camp on Monday, but he’s also hosting a number of recruits throughout the week, mostly on July 31 — the start of camp.

The day before the 2017 season’s fall camp kickoff, the Spartans will be receiving an important visit from a potential quarterback pledge in the class of 2019: Dwan Mathis.

Mathis is a three-star quarterback, on the verge of four stars, from Belleville, Mich., who plays for local Oak Park High School. The dual-threat quarterback already visited Michigan State on July 12 when he received his offer from Dantonio, but he plans to be back on Sunday, according to Sean Scherer of 247Sports.

Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 185 pounds, you can bet Dantonio wants the young dual-threat to bulk up before he starts his college career if it’s with the Spartans. He’s likely the top quarterback on the Spartans’ board for the class while it’s still far too early to be sure.

Mathis has a strong arm and can complete some throws that not many quarterbacks will even attempt. He sometimes relies too much on his legs, though, which could get him in trouble with Michigan State’s pro-style offense.

It won’t be long before he’s a four-star prospect in the 2019 rankings, but for now he’s listed as the No. 288 overall player and eighth-best dual-threat, according to 247Sports. He’s also the eighth-best in-state prospect and holds seven early offers.
