Michigan State recruiting faces another important month as July could yield some major commitments in both football and basketball.

The month of June brought loads of success to Michigan State recruiting. The football program received a handful of commitments and Tom Izzo’s basketball program landed both Gabe Brown and Marcus Bingham Jr. Now it’s time to look forward to what the month of July may offer Michigan State.

Mark Dantonio has been criticized for his lack of elite recruiting. The criticisms are fair since he’s been picking up commitments from low three-star prospects and even some two-stars, but he’s also one of the best at developing players. Imagine what he could do with four and five-star kids.

On the other hand, Izzo’s recruiting style continues to impress and he’s been picking up top targets left and right. Could he start looking toward the next class?

Let’s take a look at our five bold recruiting predictions for July.

5. First 2019 basketball commit

It might seem a little early to land a 2019 commitment, but the Spartans aren’t far from looking toward the next class. With the 2018 class basically sewn up, minus maybe one more player, Tom Izzo can begin his planning with the 2019 crop of targets.

The summer months are always important for the head coach because it’s his prime time to get recruiting done. During the season, he has limited opportunities to hit the road and check out targets, but over the summer, he can host top prospects and even pay them a visit.

Izzo has gotten some impressive work done over the summer and into early fall over the past couple of years, landing guys like Jaren Jackson Jr., Josh Langford, Cassius Winston and Miles Bridges. Can he land a 2019 kid in July?

Being bolder than usual, I’m going to say yes. The Spartans are actively recruiting in-state guys like Romeo Weems, Terry Armstrong Jr. and Mark Watts Jr., but don’t sleep on Ohio-native Jordan Mitchell or Indiana’s Keion Brooks. The first commit of 2019 is right around the corner.
