Michigan State football has landed a top target at linebacker in its 2018 recruiting class in three-star Chase Kline.

When three-star linebacker Chase Kline set an announcement date for Tuesday, July 25, everyone knew what it meant. He had just visited Michigan State and it seemed as if the Spartans were running away with his recruitment.

Well, the speculation was right. The three-star inside linebacker from Chardon, Ohio, becomes the latest pledge to Michigan State from the Buckeye State. He picked the Spartans over the likes of Minnesota, Boston College, Cincinnati, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Yale.

Yes, he’s a smart kid both on and off the field, which bodes well for Michigan State.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound back is very instinctive. He trusts himself to make a play on the ball-carrier even when it looks like he might be out of the picture. He’s patient and when he knows where the ball is going, he hits the hole hard.

Many recruiting experts claim that he fits the Spartan mold. He’s tough, physical and plays to the whistle. As an inside linebacker, he could follow the footsteps of Greg Jones, Max Bullough, Riley Bullough and now Joe Bachie. All four are guys who exemplified what it meant to be a Michigan State middle linebacker.

While he’s listed as a three-star linebacker by 247Sports, some services have him as high as a four-star. Kline is listed as the No. 580 recruit in the country and is the 25th-best inside linebacker, according to the 247 composite. He’s going to fit in quite nicely in East Lansing.
